Pitroda, advisor to the Prime Minister on public information, infrastructure and innovations, also said that the councils should be set up on the lines of the National Innovation Council (NIC). Union ministries have also been requested to set up departmental innovative councils. National Innovation Council (NIC) has recognized Vadodara Innovation Council(VIC) as country's first city-based innovation council. VIC has not only been invited to make a presentation at NIC, but has also been asked to prepare a manual which can be replicated by around 1,000 cities in the country.

VIC had organized a programme 'Promoting Innovation Consciousness' along with Baroda Lions Club Education Trust after it completed its first programme - a drive which covered over 10,000 students in the city, including 31 schools, of which 11 were municipal schools. As part of their drive to reach out to school children, VIC had conducted special programmes for students of standards five, six and seven to create interest in them to learn "how to be curious, questioning and innovative".
